ROAM If You Want To

January 26th, 2010

37 years after the first cell phone was invented, First Data has reached a new feat in both cellular and payment technology.  The new ROAMpay system allows merchants to now process transactions safely and securely through their cell phones. Yes, through that device that has slowly turned into our everyday computers.  That device that Martin Cooper, a scientist working for Motorola, invented in 1973.  A survey done by BBDO concluded that 75% of Americans have their cell phones either on them or within reach during all waking hours.  (I am definitely in the 25% that keeps it by them even when they’re asleep.)

This new payment system is compatible on most cell phones (but probably not the first couple that Cooper invented) on all major networks.  After working on this new project for 14 years, First Data is proud to release this technology to anyone and everyone with a need to process transactions on the go!  Of all wireless payment solutions, this is definitely the most cost-conscious since the terminal used is your very own cell phone.  For those of you who bring your business to people’s front doors or are direct sellers, this product is perfect for you.  By turning your cellular device into a class B certified POS device, you can be assured that all of your transactions are being processed securely.   With features like Voice 2 Talk and Reverse Phone Lookup, inputting customer information is just as easy as directly e-mailing their receipt to them.

So now you can have the freedom of making money wherever you go.  First Data has once again made processing transactions easier and more affordable…  What will they do next?

For more information on ROAMpay, please just give us a call and we will be happy to explain all of the benefits and pricing of this service.  It’s hard to remember a time without cell phones; embrace the technology.

Stay Positive With Richard Simmons

November 23rd, 2009

In 1973, a wide-eyed Richard Simmons arrived in Los Angeles with a new attitude.  After losing a significant amount of weight, he set out to help those like him by forming a work-out routine designed to help those that may be overweight, obese, physically challenged, and even seniors.  Since then, he has gotten huge(ly famous).

Most people in this country have heard of Richard Simmons, seen his work-out videos, and probably seen him on TV.  However, most probably don’t know about what he is doing now.  With 250 days on tour each year, Simmons keeps busy.  “Hoot Camp” is a project that been underway for quite some time now, teaching fitness teachers and coaches how to incorporate humor and personality into their routines.  His positive attitude and constant smile is infectious and some say is the reason why so many people have been touched by him.  This upcoming year, Simmons is working on an educational project designed to help and support those children that are going through what he experienced as a kid: bullying.   His strong empathy and respect towards all people have made him a key celebrity in the United States as a hero to some and an inspiration to all.

Chicago Metro is proud to provide processing for such a motivational man.  Check out his website to learn more about the services and products that he offers.

The Wind Beneath My Right Wing

November 16th, 2009

There comes a time in everyone’s life when they have to shape their own ideas and morals.  That’s where Young America’s Foundation comes in.  Young America’s Foundation was started in 1969 by students at Vanderbilt University.  They started University Information Services in order to inspire and teach young people the ideas of individual freedom, a strong national defense, free enterprise, and traditional values.  The name changed in 1971 and the organization became national, putting the Foundation on the map by pushing Conservative speakers to address colleges around the nation.

Exposing the American youth to these things isn’t an easy thing, though.  Through conferences, internships, seminars, and spreading educational material among young people is the most effective way for Young America’s Foundation to reach their demographic.  Taking the road paved by Ronald Reagan, this group has been dedicated to young people since they saved President Reagan’s Western White House, ensuring that his ideals and wishes for generations to come will be carried on over the years.  First Data is proud to support Young America’s Foundation as they continue to spread their message across the country.  You can learn more about them, and even attend one of their conferences at:

Wake Up and Smell The Coffee

July 16th, 2009

Aloha, my name is Lisa and I have an addiction to coffee. If you’ve never had coffee from Hawaii, you’re out of luck. Lucky for me, one of our merchants has the best coffee I’ve ever had and now, lucky for you, I will share a little secret with you: Donkey Balls.
This is probably one of the best kept secrets of Hawaii with their fine assortment of donkey balls (chocolate covered nuts and coffee beans), gourmet coffee, the tastiest hot sauce around, and fat cigars. Not to mention the merchandise with their signature logo on it. A legend because of all of the heavy carrying up and down the mountains of Hawaii over the years, a surfing donkey is the face of Keoki’s Donkey Balls. And a cute one at that. Clever names for their products and witty banter flood the website making even buying an experience in itself.
For 20 years now, Scott and Karen have run a great store in Kona, Hawaii called Boondocks and have featured these covered coffee beans and assorted nuts with gourmet chocolate that melts in your mouth and leaves you craving the whole bag. A perfect pair with a cup of joe in the morning. Just the right donkey kick needed to wake up.
Check out their website and have a taste for yourself:

The Doc Is In

June 15th, 2009

In a time where cabinets full of paper documents are associated with wastefulness, Paperless Doc Corporation is on their game. They are experts in converting paper documents into electronic files. Whether it is archival use or Web use, Paperless Doc specializes in scanning and character recognition services that save the document as word processing formats. So your orders, contracts, invoices, and employee records can be readily available at any time across your entire organization. This service is great because while others spend hours looking through different departments trying to find files, you can find it quickly and easily so that you can get back to doing what you do best. On top of all of the document conversion that they do, the folks at Paperless Doc just started a printer cartridge recycling program last month. I think mother earth has someone to thank.
It is said that 90% of corporate information resides on paper so corporations are finding it more necessary to back-up those files. This service is perfect for any business that uses filing cabinets. Not to mention the amount of waste that is reduced daily. Now you can get rid of that bulky cabinet with trees inside and spring for a potted plant instead.
Check out PaperlessDoc’s website for more details on pricing and which of their services could help your office go green:

WE FIX BAD WEBSITES!

June 4th, 2009

One particular day, while driving down the highway, I noticed a huge billboard: “We Fix Bad Websites.” Now this caught my attention because it wasn’t like most of the others billboards, about losing hair or where the next tattoo expo is. It stood out. Direct and to the point, the billboard caught my attention and I decided to check it out. Well, it paid off. I discovered a great web development company that has since become a referral partner of ours. With hundreds of web pages out there with their stamp on it, Distant Horizon has a solid history and even tighter repertoire.
Distant Horizon is a company that does just that – fixes bad websites. Started in 1999 by Brandon Wilson after spending a few years developing websites from his parent’s house, the company slowly got it’s footing with larger and larger clients. While Wilson is neither a designer nor a programmer by training, he founded a company that employs the best. On top of that, he sticks to the basics: quality of graphic design, accuracy of content, speed of development, ease of maintenance, and so much more. They have a money-back guarantee (which is hard to come by these days) and a 100% hosting up-time refund policy.
“As much as I’ve learned about websites, I still try hard to view them with the eyes of a business owner, prospective customer or one of the other 300 million people out there that use the web to research, shop, or learn… not as a web geek or branding hot shot,” says Wilson.
Our relationship with Distant Horizon has grown over time and has proven to be beneficial to both parties; we offer them the best rates and best customer service in the processing industry today, and they offer this benefit to their clients. We at First Data Independent Sales wish all the best to the Distant Horizon team as they celebrate their 10 year anniversary.
