As any other type of CNP transaction, Mail Order/Telephone Order (MOTO) transactions do not require the physical presence of the credit card, just the credit card details, and sometimes, the personal details of the cardholder.

In order to earn the lowest possible rates and protect your business from potential chargebacks, First Data recommends that you obtain the following information when taking a phone order:

• Cardholder name
• Card number
• Expiration date
• CVV / CVV2 (security number on the back of the card)
• Street address number and zip code

With the appropriate processing system or terminal, the address verification service (AVS) will prompt you for information to assist you in minimizing your risk of fraudulent transactions. We also recommend that you obtain a signature via mail or fax next to the payment amount if possible, to help you avoid potential chargebacks.
